Joe Angell- Area Director Olympia/Tacoma

Joe is originally from the small town of Sedro-Woolley in western Washington. He moved to the east side of the state for college and spent about ten years living in Spokane before returning to western Washington. He currently lives in the Tacoma area where he’s put down roots for the last five years.

Joe attended Sedro-Woolley High School and pursued higher education at Yakima Valley Community College, Central Washington University, Eastern Washington University, and Arizona State University. His academic focus centered on English Literature and Education, with additional coursework in Psychology and History along the way. His original plan was to become an English teacher. What began as a summer job after college turned into a long-term and fulfilling career. Joe has spent most of his professional life working in this field, including roles as a Direct Support Professional, Transitions Director, and Program Director.

Outside of work, Joe enjoys reading, hiking, and exploring new places. He is also the parent of an active toddler, which means each day brings a new adventure and plenty of opportunities to see the world through fresh eyes. While he misses Spokane, he enjoys being close to the ocean and appreciates the region’s cloudy days and steady rain.

Joe’s work has been shaped by a strong commitment to supporting people through meaningful transitions, whether that means navigating new opportunities, overcoming barriers, or adjusting to life changes. He focuses on helping individuals build sustainable paths forward by fostering independence, confidence, and long-term stability, always with an emphasis on dignity, respect, and practical support.

A quote that resonates with him comes from William James: “To change one’s life: Start immediately, do it extravagantly, no exceptions, no excuses.”
